Yesterday was the birthday of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR). He was born on January 30, 1882 to one of New York’s oldest families. I thought I would share historic photos of one of his homes that he resided with wife Eleanor and their children from 1887 until his death in 1919. His home was Sagamore Hill, Oyster Bay NY.
A lovely Queen Anne Style home on the Coast of Long Island must have been relaxing for the president. It was referred to as the ” Summer White House”. Queen Anne was a late Victorian period style that was full of decoration. This home is much more modest than many of the over the top gingerbread decoration. I am draw to it also as my ancestors lived in Oyster Bay and worked as gardeners on the big estates. I can only wonder which estate. Maybe Sagamore Hill.
